About this Blog
Food is a significant part both of our personal lives and of our community, with every decision we collectively make about the food system (the policies, programs, mechanisms, infrastructure, capital and values that go into the production, distribution, consumption and disposal of food) affecting our quality of life and the social, economic and environmental sustainability of the community.
A sustainable food system means equal opportunity for health and healthy food choices, environmental protection, humane treatment of animals, strong community networks, varied and ample career opportunities, healthy jobs with livable wages, economic opportunity and diversity, food safety, resource conservation, access to nature and open space, education about healthy food (where food comes from, nutrition and cooking), and the opportunity and support to farm and grow food.
Many different groups in Napa across the food system are taking creative and community-based steps to build the local food system and reach these goals. This “blog” collects and showcases activities and issues that are happening throughout the local food system.
